With two Professional Internship practicums, you鈥檒l gain hands-on experience applying principal leadership in real-world school settings. The program鈥檚 structure鈥16-week fall and spring semesters and a focused 4-week summer term鈥攐ffers a clear, efficient path to principal licensure.

Each term includes two days of on-campus instruction, allowing you to connect with faculty and peers while building your professional network. With a single start date each May, this program offers a structured yet flexible path to earning your principal licensure.

Licensure Requirements

To earn the educational leadership degree at UW-Platteville, you must meet specific licensure requirements:

  • Hold or be eligible for a Wisconsin Tier II, III, or IV teacher license, or hold or be eligible for a Wisconsin Tier II, III, or IV license as a school counselor, school psychologist, or social worker.
  • Have six semesters of successful classroom teaching experience or experience as a school counselor, psychologist, or social worker, including at least 540 hours of classroom teaching.
  • Maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 throughout the program.
  • Complete a practicum experience during the fall and spring semesters.

The WI Department of Public Instruction requires that candidates for admission to an administration licensure program successfully pass a criminal background check conducted by the program. By applying for admission to this program, candidates agree to provide the necessary personal information to UW-Platteville to initiate the background check, to complete the candidate portion of the process prior to the deadline provided by the program coordinator, and to pay all costs associated with the criminal background check.
