Generally, air conditioners are not permitted in student rooms unless a documented medical condition exists. Supporting documentation from a doctor is required.  Exception and approval must be sought through Residence Life. Once approved, Residence Life will provide and install the air conditioner. The cost of the air conditioner will be added to your university bill. Air conditioners will be re-moved on or around Oct. 15 for the winter and will be installed for the spring on or around April 1, if desired. Portable air conditioning units are not allowed. Because of fire hazards, space heaters are not permitted in residence halls. If your room is cold, contact your RA first to assist and then please call the Maintenance Hotline at 608.342.1155 or report it through the maintenance request online form.

Bathrooms in the traditional halls are shared community space based on a student’s identified gender.  They provide privacy for showering via stall or shower curtain.  Cleaning schedules are noted on signs outside each room.

The suite-style buildings have varied floor plans for their bathrooms that a resident would share with 1 to 3 other suite mates.  The cleaning of these bathrooms is the responsibility of the resident, with scheduled cleanings performed by hall custodial staff on a rotating basis.

For students living on campus in the residence halls, bike racks are available outside each hall for bike parking. Covered bike lockers are available for bike storage in several locations near the residence halls. The cost is $35 per semester, $70 per academic year, and $25 for the summer and can be rented at each hall’s front desk. Bicycles should never be secured to poles, trees, railings, or locations other than designated bike racks, as they will be subject to confiscation by Facilities and University Police. Bike racks are also located outside most academic buildings on campus.

Bikes cannot be temporarily or permanently stored in the residence halls. The one exception to this policy is that students are allowed, during the winter months, to bring their bicycles into their room to store until the spring. Once the bicycle is taken back outside it must remain outside for the remainder of the year.

Residence Life strives to improve and update areas of residence halls to ensure a comfortable and safe living environment for students to promote learning outside of the classroom and a place to call home. The department maintains a strategic plan that considers budget and student impact in projects and updates to the halls. The Department of Residence Life welcomes input from students on amenities and projects they would like to see. The Residence Hall Association, our residence hall governance body, also works as a partner with our department to develop ideas as we look to improve and update our living communities.

For your convenience, the main desk in each residence hall has regular hours for equipment check-out and information. Most check-out procedures require an activity membership.  However, all students may check out a vacuum cleaner with a student ID card. When you check out items, please be timely in the return of item. Equipment and materials that may be checked out include sporting equipment, tools, games, and cooking supplies.  Please visit your main desk to see what specifically is available.  Burned out light bulbs should be exchanged at the main desk.

Limited cooking is permitted in student rooms in our traditional halls. A kitchen, complete with a stove, counter area, sink, and garbage disposal is available in the basement of each traditional residence hall.  (Rountree and Bridgeway Commons, Wilgus and McGregor halls have kitchen units on each floor.) A variety of cooking supplies and utensils are available at any main desk.  There is a microwave oven and generally a toaster on each wing or floor for student use. Because many residents use the kitchen, you are asked to exercise courtesy and cleanliness. Kitchens and microwave rooms that are unclean or unsafe may be closed.

ID/card swipe washers and dryers located in the laundry room of each hall for your use. The costs for these machines are $1.50 for one washer load and $1.50 for one dryer load. There is an option to add for additional drying minutes. Prices are subject to change. Rountree Commons laundry room costs are included in the residence hall fee. Courtesy and respect for others’ property should always be practiced in the shared use of these facilities. Laundry machine maintenance concerns should be reported to CSC Serviceworks.  Contact information is in each residence hall laundry room. Requests for refunds can be directed to laundry@uwplatt.edu.

Many of our residents have found that lofting their beds enables them to use the floor space in their rooms more efficiently. The 91��������-Platteville chapter of National Residence Hall Honorary works with Collegiate Marketing Inc. to provide rental lofts to students on campus. The Department of Residence Life is excited to offer a loft delivery option to have the loft pieces delivered to their room before they move in at no additional charge if ordered by the deadline. Due to the popularity of this program it is strongly advised that you pre-order a loft.

We have two loft systems on campus. The loft you need will depend on the building you live in. Learn more about loft rental.

The department receives USPS mail directly to the residence hall.  Each student has a individual or shared mailbox (with their roommate) that is accessible via their room key.  In Rountree Commons, each student has a mailbox with a combination lock.

The residence halls also receive packages from USPS as well as common delivery companies during the hours of 10 a.m. to noon. During non-desk hours, packages are delivered to the Department of Residence Life in Ullsvik Hall. Students are notified via email if they have received a package and it has been delivered to the front desk.  Please allow for time between arrival at the point of delivery to your residence hall front desk.

We use the as your campus address, and this is where mail/packages should be sent.

During breaks when front desk hours may be altered due to staffing, students can pick up their mail and packages at the Department of Residence Life office located in 1300 Ullsvik Hall.

Please note: the department is only able to forward USPS packages and mail.  All other companies that deliver packages do not forward and will be marked “Return to sender.”

The Medical Accommodations Team will assist residents who have the medically documented need for modifications to the room for accessibility and other medical needs. Visit the Disability Access Center Residence Life Accommodations to begin the accommodation process and for further information.

Nature Trail Enjoy nature and 200 species of trees along the 1.5-mile nature trail. The trail’s beginning is located east of Greenwood Avenue Market.

Volleyball Courts: Sand volleyball courts are located by Dobson, Morrow, and Pickard Halls for student use.  They may be reserved for special tournaments through the senior assistant of the corresponding building.

Disc (Frisbee) Golf: An 18-hole disc golf course is part of the campus landscape.  Hole number one is located west of Glenview Commons.  Discs may be available for check-out through the residence hall main desk or purchased through Momentum Bikes and Boards on Main Street, 608.348.6888.

A valid UW-Platteville parking permit is required to park in all lots on campus except for ParkMobile Pay by Plate service stalls.  Parking regulations in residence hall lots are enforced from noon on Sunday through noon on Friday. For more information regarding parking and transportation and to purchase parking permits, please visit University Police.

Traditional Halls, Cooper Living Learning Center, and Bridgeway Commons: Each room is furnished with a four cubic foot compact refrigerator.

Rountree Commons: Full size refrigerators are provided in the kitchen area for suite occupants to share No additional refrigerators may be brought into student rooms.

Southwest Hall: Full size refrigerators are provided in the kitchen area for suite occupants to share.

Roommates are held mutually responsible for the room/suite refrigerator. Upon check-out, the refrigerator must be defrosted, cleaned, and dried. Failure to do so will result in a $25 charge for defrosting and a $30 charge for cleaning. Residents desiring to add a personal refrigerator to the room will pay a $25 per academic year energy surcharge. Personal refrigerators or freezers may be no larger than five cubic feet.

If you wish to change your room location for any reason (whether you wish to change within your own hall or transfer to another), you may, provided there is space available. In order to move, you must complete a Room Change Inquiry Form. See your hall staff for more information.

All outside entrances to each residence hall will utilize the student’s ID card. Rountree Commons residents utilize a key fob for entrance. The side and front entrances will be locked 24 hours a day.

In addition, student hall staff are trained in emergency procedures and perform safety and security checks in the evenings throughout the building.  University police are located on campus 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  Blue emergency lights are stationed around campus to ensure there is safety communication for UW-Platteville students.

To provide security for those staying on campus and the belongings of all residents, in our traditional halls, you may NOT occupy your room during the time between semester closing and start of Winterim. Southwest Hall, Rountree and Bridgeway Commons and Cooper LLC are open during the entire academic year.

Each residence hall has some type of facility available for residents’ use for group meetings. Please see your Senior Assistant, Assistant Resident Director, or Resident Director for instructions on reserving the space.

Study lounges are located on each wing or floor and have been furnished for the added comfort and convenience of hall residents.

Believe it or not, you don't want to move your belongings home. Take advantage of our Summer Storage program! Hall eligibility is determined based on any maintenance updates needed or camps/conferences scheduled for a building. Summer storage will be communicated out to students prior to the end of the year.

You can participate even if you are changing residence halls for the fall semester. The space you will be moving into for the next academic year will need to be vacated prior to you moving your items into summer storage. Be sure to pay attention to the details in the contract as to your expectations to participate in the program.

One great perk of participating in the Summer Storage program is the option to leave your loft in your room (if you are returning to the same room) for the summer and it will be there waiting for you in the fall. If you have a wooden loft kit, your University/Rountree portal account will be charged for the school year. Students with Collegiate Marketing lofts will be asked to go to their website to re-rent the loft for the school year.

The deadline to complete a contract is the first Friday of May and the $150 fee will be charged to your University account/Rountree portal account. If you have any further questions, don't hesitate to contact your Assistant Resident Director or Resident Director.

Students are able to utilize Wi-Fi access for any registered streaming service.

Cable television is offered in television lounges and lobbies of each residence hall.

Wi-Fi
Every bedroom has Wi-Fi internet and is also equipped with multiple data jacks, so you don't have to share your connection with a roommate.  With these connections, students can access email, network storage, the internet, and more.

Network support is available to assist you.

Computers
If you do not have your own computer to connect to the network, you may use the computer lab in your residence hall, which is in the basement of the hall. Southwest Hall has one computer located in each of the study rooms for use by residents within the hall. 

Bridgeway Commons and Rountree Commons have computer kiosk stations within the public lobby areas.
