The College of Liberal Arts and Education, in collaboration with Avalon Cinema in Platteville, will host a free screening of February on Wednesday, March 5. The film, which won the Audience Choice Award at the 2024 Wisconsin Film Festival, is set in rural Wisconsin and follows a Mexican immigrant struggling to fit into a small town until he discovers ice fishing. February is part of the "Year Project," a series of films—one for each month of the year—set in Wisconsin. The film stars David Ezekiel Duran, Nayeli Hernandez, Erick Inestroza and Richie Gordon, and was written and directed by Nathan Deming.

After the screening, David Gillota, chair of the Humanities Department and professor of film, American literature and composition, will moderate a Q&A with the filmmaker.

Nathan Deming, an award-winning Wisconsin filmmaker originally from Tomah and based in Los Angeles, has returned to his home state to create films exploring the lives of Wisconsin residents.

When: Wednesday, March 5 | 6 p.m.
Where: Avalon Cinema, 95 E Main St., Platteville
