News of the week

  • Blaze Pizza fundraiser for junior class Friday – today – Avoid cooking dinner AND support the Class of 2025 at a fundraiser at Blaze Pizza in Stuyvesant Plaza from 4-8 p.m. today, Friday. Take out or eat in. .
  • Short Play Festival opens Friday – tonight – The Theater Ensemble will present three performances of the Short Play Festival this Friday (TONIGHT) and Saturday at 6:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. Tickets will be sold at the door and cost $15 each for general admission and $5 each for students and seniors. Learn more and  to see dress rehearsal photos taken Wednesday. 
  • Bring up grades online – 91¸£Àûµ¼º½ High students can now bring up their first-quarter grades at the Online Success Center. All students with at least 85% attendance are welcome to sign up. Please note that as of this year, 65% is the highest new grade possible. See Mr. Vacanti in room 1311 or email tvacanti@albany.k12.ny.us for more information.
  • Food pantry this week – The school food pantry behind the Citizenship Office is open on Tuesday from 3:45-5:30 p.m. or by appointment. Specials this week include Pringles, frozen pepperoni pizzas, Takis, almond milk, cocoa, macaroni and cheese, apples, and eggs. We also have many sides to help supplement Thanksgiving dinners for families like stuffing, bread, turkey gravy, green beans, collard greens, cream corn and carrots. We also are stocked up on hygiene supplies for families and diapers.
  • PTSA wreath sale fundraiser underway – Order a fresh-cut wreath AND support our PTSA. The wreaths are $20 each, and deadline to order is Dec. 1. Questions? Email ptsaalbanyhigh@gmail.com. .
  • Spring play audition workshop – Theater Ensemble Director Brian Avery will hold an audition workshop on Nov. 27 in the choir room from 4-6 p.m. for students interested in being part of the school's spring musical, "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee." Interested students can learn the audition music, find out about upcoming auditions and get their questions answered.  
  • Winter sports underway  - Good luck to the 383 varsity and JV student-athletes on the swim, track, wrestling, cheer, bowling and basketball teams this 2023-24 season! Check out
  • Chamber concert rings in holidays – On Wednesday, our talented student musicians and vocalists held the first of three winter concerts. Performing were the B Flats, Albanettes, Troubadours, Chamber Choir and Jazzmanian Devils along with a cello duet and string quartet.
  • Best Buddies Thanksgiving bash a blast – Best Buddies always throw a great a party, and on Wednesday, they enthusiastically rooted for three hardy souls that engaged a Thanksgiving pie-eating contest at Abrookin Career and Technical Center. Transition coordinator Joey DiPiazza finished his pie first. Learn more.
  • NASA talk otherworldly – On Tuesday, NASA mathematician Alan Hylton flew in from Washington, DC to talk to 91¸£Àûµ¼º½ High students about his unconventional path to the U.S. agency responsible for space research & travel. He also discussed his latest project, a solar internet. Learn more.

Important reminders

  • Next Gen Barbers is open for business – Students, staff and community members can get haircuts Thursday and Friday afternoons from from 1:15-2:45 p.m. at Abrookin. Cost is free for students, $5 for staff and $10 for community members, and an appointment is required. Learn more.
  • Student ID reminder – Please see this important information about student ID cards.
  • Support Key Club and get a great meal – Dine in or get take-out at Mr. Bumble’s on New Scotland Avenue between 4-5 p.m. weekdays and say “I am a Falcon,” and the restaurant will donate 15 percent of profits to Key Club! Every weekday through Thanksgiving.
  • Join an after-school club – There’s something for EVERYONE at 91¸£Àûµ¼º½ High – including some 35 after-school clubs and activities! Take a look at the full list and find your passion!
  • New safety rules – Effective immediately, 91¸£Àûµ¼º½ High School is implementing new safety procedures for dropping off or picking up students at school. Learn more.
  • Free salon services for 55+ – Attention 91¸£Àûµ¼º½ residents age 55 and up: Get free beauty services from aspiring beauticians every Thursday at 91¸£Àûµ¼º½ High! Learn more.
  • Leaving school – 91¸£Àûµ¼º½ High School is a closed campus. Students are not allowed to leave campus for any reason without parent permission. This includes during lunch and study hall. If a student has an appointment, i.e. doctor, medical, family matter, etc., they must have a note or phone call from a parent giving permission to leave. All students also must be signed out by a parent in order to leave school grounds. Students who leave campus without a valid reason will not be allowed to re-enter without parent contact.
  • Traveling to and from Abrookin – All students must take the bus to and from Abrookin Career and Technical Center and the main campus for any classes. This will prevent students from being late and having to go back through security, and ensure student safety. Students who do not take the bus will not be allowed to re-enter without parent contact.  The bus is available at Building 2, Stair 2-2 and at the Abrookin entrance.
