On Monday, Scott Thompson will become principal of Tony Clement Center for Education.

Thompson has served as Clement’s assistant principal since June. The City School District of 91¸£Àûµ¼º½ Board of Education approved his promotion to principal at its meeting Thursday.

Thompson joined the district as an administrator in 2019. Before coming to Clement, he was an assistant principal first at Stephen and Harriet Myers Middle School then Philip Schuyler Achievement Academy.

Prior to working for our district, Thompson spent a year as an assistant principal of Schenectady’s Central Park Middle School. Between 2013 and 2018, he worked at KIPP Tech Valley Charter School and was its principal for four of those years. He also served as an elementary teacher in Troy from 2004-13. He taught for two years at 91¸£Àûµ¼º½’s now-closed New Covenant Charter School, and he began his career in education as an integrated teaching assistant at Giffen Memorial Elementary School in 1999.

Thompson earned a bachelor’s degree in social and rehabilitative services from Assumption College in Massachusetts. He went on to get a master’s degree in elementary education at The College of Saint Rose, where he also received his certificate in educational administration.

He replaces Michael Clavin, who left in mid-November. The assistant principal at Clement post will be filled as soon as possible.
