ADA & reasonable accommodations

Reasonable accommodations are given to employees who have disabilities as defined by the .  Accommodations are given to assist the employee with performing the essential functions of their job duties that due to their disability they are unable to perform without an accommodation.  Employees cannot be granted reasonable accommodations for someone else’s disability, i.e. a family member they reside with.  Telework is not a mandatory accommodation or a guarantee under the American with Disabilities Act.

If the request is for the serious health condition of the employees’ child, spouse or parent, the employee would be offered FMLA (providing they have met the requirements); as reasonable accommodations under the ADA are not applicable in this instance.
